Model Checking Markov Chains Against Unambiguous Buchi Automata

چکیده
An automaton is unambiguous if each word has at most one accepting run and separated if no word is accepted from two distinct states. The classical translation of LTL formulas to Büchi automata [5] produces unambiguous separated automata since the states of such automata correspond to complete subformula types. Motivated by this observation, Couvreur et al. [3] present a polynomialtime algorithm to model check Markov chains against separated unambiguous Büchi automata In this note we give a polynomial-time algorithm for model checking Markov chains against Büchi automata that are unambiguous but not necessarily separated. Apart from the extra generality of this procedure, our main motivation is the fact that the build-by-need translation from LTL to Büchi automata described in [1]—adapting the construction of [4]—produces automata that are unambiguous but which may not be separated.

Markov Chains and Unambiguous Büchi Automata
Unambiguous automata, i.e., nondeterministic automata with the restriction of having at most one accepting run over a word, have the potential to be used instead of deterministic automata in settings where nondeterministic automata can not be applied in general. In this paper, we provide a polynomially time-bounded algorithm for probabilistic model checking of discrete-time Markov chains agains...
متن کاملFinite-state abstractions for probabilistic computation tree logic
Probabilistic Computation Tree Logic (PCTL) is the established temporal logic for probabilistic verification of discrete-time Markov chains. Probabilistic model checking is a technique that verifies or refutes whether a property specified in this logic holds in a Markov chain. But Markov chains are often infinite or too large for this technique to apply. A standard solution to this problem is t...

متن کاملModel Checking Timed and Stochastic Properties with CSL
Markov chains are a well-known stochastic process that provide a balance between being able to adequately model the system’s behavior and being able to afford the cost of the model solution. Systems can be modeled directly as Markov chains, or with a higher-level formalism for which Markov chains represent the underlying semantics. Markov chains are widely used to study the performance of compu...
متن کاملLazy Probabilistic Model Checking without Determinisation
The bottleneck in the quantitative analysis of Markov chains and Markov decision processes against specifications given in LTL or as some form of nondeterministic Büchi automata is the inclusion of a determinisation step of the automaton under consideration. Such determinisation constructions are notoriously difficult and cumbersome to implement. In this paper we argue that applying this step i...
